Trees as Brelot spaces
A Brelot space is a connected, locally compact, noncompact Hausdorff space together with the choice of a sheaf of functions on this space which are called harmonic. We prove that by considering functions on a tree to be functions on the edges as well as on the vertices (instead of just on the vertices), a tree becomes a Brelot space. This leads to many results on the potential theory of trees. ...

Motion planning for systems with constraints on controls or the need for relatively straight paths for real-time actions presents challenges for modern planners. This paper presents an approach which addresses these types of systems by building on existing motion planning approaches. Guided Expansive Spaces Trees are introduced to search for a low cost and relatively straight path in a space wi...
متن کاملUniversal Spaces for R-trees
R-trees arise naturally in the study of groups of isometries of hyperbolic space. An R-tree is a uniquely arcwise connected metric space in which each arc is isometric to a subarc of the reals. It follows that an R-tree is locally arcwise connected, contractible, and one-dimensional. Unique and local arcwise connectivity characterize R-trees among metric spaces. A universal R-tree would be of i...
متن کاملLandscapes on spaces of trees
Combinatorial optimization problems defined on sets of phylogenetic trees are an important issue in computational biology, for instance the problem of reconstruction a phylogeny using maximum likelihood or parsimony approaches. The collection of possible phylogenetic trees is arranged as a so-called Robinson graph by means of the nearest neighborhood interchange move. The coherent algebra and s...
متن کاملEnd spaces and spanning trees
We determine when the topological spaces |G| naturally associated with a graph G and its ends are metrizable or compact. In the most natural topology, |G| is metrizable if and only if G has a normal spanning tree. We give two proofs, one of them based on Stone’s theorem that metric spaces are paracompact. We show that |G| is compact in the most natural topology if and only if no finite vertex s...
